A Russian silver gilt and shaded cloisonne enamel egg, Feodor Ruckert, Moscow, circa 1896-1908. This is generously ornamented with birds in shaded enamels set amongst scrolling floral and foliate enamel against a pale blue ground, the interior gilded and engraved in Cyrillic with the Easter greeting “Christ has Risen”. Height 2 1/2” (6.4 cm). Provenance: Acquired in Moscow by Dr. Adolphus S. Rumreich, 1930’s. Dr. Rumreich served as the physician at the US Embassy in Moscow from 1935-1938. While there, he assembled a sizeable collection of Russian art. They often accompanied Ambassador Joseph Davies and his wife, Marjorie Merriweather Post.
