A jewelled gold and enamel presenation portrait snuff box, C. Weishaupt und Sohne, Hanau, circa 1860, the rim numbered 4294. Of cartouche form, the lid inset with a miniature, by Alois Gustav Rockstuhl, of Alexander II, in a black uniform within a pearl-set frame. The ground decorated in high relief with twigs, partially enamelled in blue on a matted ground, further set with six large pastes, the shaped sides and base elaborately engraved with a plethora of different types of leaf and flower woven into strapwork. Dimensions: 1 7/8" H x 4" W x 2 7/8" D (4.8 x 10.2 x 7.3 cm). Provenance: Sotheby's Geneva, 11/16/93 and 11/18/93, lot 96.
